Adult query handling

The script has built-in features to prevent AdSense ads being displayed on pages with adult content. Since the 3.5 version, the adult pages can either be blocked completely, or contain user-defined ads in place of AdSense.

Adult page detection

The script determines if the page contains adult content by examining the actual search results, and testing if they contain a specified number of adult-related words. The words are defined in the language file (located in lang subdirectory), in the $blockwords array. The actual number of adult word occurrences that triggers the adult filter is defined in the config/config.txt file, as the value of "adult_threshold" parameter.

If you realize that a page with adult result slips the filters and displays AdSense ads, you can add the adult words that occur on the page to the $blockwords array for better filtering. Please try to add single words rather than complete phrases. You might also consider lowering the filter threshold, although the default value (5) should be sufficient.

Displaying your own ads on adult pages

Normally, the adult pages are blocked completely. You can disable this functionality and instead display your own ads on these pages. To do this, you must have the setting "adult_alternate=1" in your configuration file. You must also enter your ad codes for the left, middle and right block in the files:

layout/adult0.inc
layout/adult1.inc
layout/adult2.inc

These files currently don't have any ad code in them, because there exists plenty of different adult ad providers. AdBrite could be a good starting point if you don't have any provider in mind.
