Configuration manual

Most changes in the script configuration are made by editing the config.txt file located in the config directory.

Inserting your own affiliate IDs

Insert your AdSense publisher ID in the config file, in the "adsense=..." line. To obtain your publisher ID, generate any AdSense ad unit code and look into the generated JavaScript. If you don't have an AdSense account yet, go to:
http://www.google.com/adsense

Insert your Ebay Partner Network campaign ID in the config file, in the "pid=..." line. In order to get money from Ebay affiliate program, you need to register with Ebay Partner Network:
http://www.ebaypartnernetwork.com/
and join the Ebay US affiliate program. After that, generate HTML code for any Ebay banner and you will see your site PID displayed in the pop-up window.

Insert your Amazon associate ID in the config file, in the "amazon=..." line. If you don't have an Amazon associate ID yet, go to:
http://associates.amazon.com/

Insert your Clickbank login in the config file, in the "clickbank=..." line. If you don't have a Clickbank account yet, go to:
http://www.clickbank.com/

Changing search feed

You can use different search RSS feed than MSN search. For example, you can use use SearchFeed or other pay-per-click search engine to earn money from search clicks. You can enter alternate search feed URL on the "feed=..." in the config file. You should use the wildcard string {search}, which will be replaced by search keyword entered by the user.

Example:
feed=http://www.somesearchengine.com/search.php?q={search}

From version 3.3, you can use also SearchFeed non-RSS XML feed. It will be recognized automatically and parsed accordingly. Remember to use the XML feed, not JavaScript or other feed type.

From version 3.3, you can also use HotBot Google search instead of MSN feed. To enable this, change the line "hotbot=0" in config file to "hotbot=1".

Changing locale

The script currently supports US & UK search feeds. Default local is US. If you want to change it, change the "lang=..." line in the config file. Use the following values:
us - US locale
uk - UK locale

Note: If you chane your locale, remember that you must join the corresponding regional Ebay affiliate program on Commission Junction (for example, if you chose UK instead of US, join the Ebay UK program).

Changing logos

Logos are stored in the "images" directory. Replace the files "logo_big.gif" and "logo_small.gif" with your own graphics.

Changing keywords

Keywords displayed on the main page are edited in the "words.txt" file in "config" directory. Edit this file to change the search keywords which appear on the main page.

Disabling certain search types

You can disable certain search types (for example, you can disable Ebay auction search if you are not a member of Ebay affiliate program). To do this, change the value of config lines starting with "show_" from 1 to 0; for example, to disable Ebay auction search, change "show_ebay=1" to "show_ebay=0".

Changing default search type

To change default search type, performed when user clicks a link on the main page, change the "default=..." line in the config file. Use the following values:
empty - Web search
E - Ebay search
AA - Amazon book search
AB - Amazon music search
AF - Amazon electronic search
C - Clickbank search
N - Yahoo news search

Changing AdSense ads style

You can change the style of AdSense ad blocks to stand out more from the search results. In order to do that, change the line "safe_ads=0" in the config file to "safe_ads=1".

Changing related results provider

By default, related results are fetched from Overture search engine. They are thorough, but take about 30 seconds to retrieve, leaving your visitors with empty space until they are fully fetched. Since the 3.5 version, you can retrieve these results from Ask.com search engine. The setting "related_ask" controls this behavior. It can have the following values:
0 - use only Overture
1 - use Ask.com and fetch Overture in background; display Overture if they are available
2 - use only Ask.com

Setting this parameter to 1 will greatly enhance your users' experience, while still allowing to use the detailed Overture related keyword list.
